There is NO AVGAS available at the Puerto Peñasco International Airport MMPE due to a broken fuel meter on the fuel truck. While they actually have AVGAS supply at the airport, they are unable to pump it at this time. We spoke again to the airport this morning and learned that the meter is still broken and that they have as yet been unable to fix it. In the meantime, they will continue to be UNABLE to pump AVGAS.

There is no definite time or date for when they will be able to once again pump AVGAS. Therefore, if you plan to travel to MMPE over the coming days, you should pay special attention to the AVGAS supply and ensure that they have been able to repair the meter and be able to pump AVGAS. We were just advised by the airport staff in Puerto Peñasco (Rocky Point) that AVGAS supply has been re-established as of 10 minutes ago.

Hi Kipp,

While we have overflown it a few times recently, it has been a couple of years since we actually landed there. The new airport is located way outside of town requiring a long (and expensive) taxi ride both ways. The facilities are adequate and we would not categorize it as General Aviation Unfriendly. Being that this airport is considered federal property you can expect the presence of private security, military and federal police. We have overnighted at the new airport a few times with our own aircraft without any issues.

Be sure that you use current charts and information so that you do not mistake the old airport which was located very close to town with the new airport. Color aerial pictures, runway information and telephone numbers for the new airport can be found in our Pilot's Guide to Mexico and Central America Pilot's Guide to Mexico and Central America
