The Mariscal de Sucre Internationa Airport in Quito, Ecuador (SEQU) will clear its last flight for takeoff later today. The current airport, locaetd in a densely populated area in Quito is being replaced by a "NEW" Mariscal de Sucre International Airport in the city of Tabelaba, Ecuador (SEQM) about 18 miiles to the northeast.

The last flight, a TAME Airlines flight will depart later today and tomorrow the new airport will begin operations.

The new airport is about 1,300 feet lower in elevation (7,910 ft versus 9,228 ft) and has a longer runway (RWY 18/36 13,445 ft versus 10,236 ft of the old RWY 17/35). Approaches for SEQM consist of an ILS for RWY 36 and VOR/DME approach for RWY 36.

If you are planning a flight to Quito, Ecuador be sure that you have the latest aeronautical information for airways and airport approaches to ensure a safe and uneventful flight.
